Berry Smoothies!!!

Everyone will probably agree that berry smoothies have been the long standing classic! May be because there are so many berries, that making a new recipe, or tweaking an old one is, well, simple!

But a lot of people don’t know where to start - that’s where we come in!

So, first let's talk a little bit about the health benefits of berries!

Health Benefits of Berries

We will have to say that the Health Benefits of Berries are plentiful! When it comes down to it berries seem to answer the question with “all of the above” starting with the fact that they are full of antioxidants and flavonoids, low in calories, and high in water and fiber not to mention they are a natural sweetener.

Below are some health benefits explained in more detail.

Fiber – is very important, it allows our bodies to expel toxins - that without it - would otherwise pile up and become harmful to our overall health.

The recommended daily intake of fiber for women is anywhere from 21 grams to 25 grams; for men it is: 30 grams to 38 grams per day. The younger you are typically to more fiber your body needs.

But do remember when increasing your dietary fiber be sure to increase your water intake as well.

Why?

Because fiber soaks up water and if you take more fiber without water the fiber may divert water from cells. So, when increasing fiber, be sure to increase fluids accordingly.

Vitamin C – mostly found in strawberries. This is a powerful vitamin that plays an important role in a healthy immune system. They say strawberries contain more vitamins C in a one-cup serving than one orange – WOW!

Antioxidants – blackberries are among the top 10 on the list of foods with the highest antioxidant levels. All berries contain antioxidants even though the blackberry is especially high, but the strawberry is also contains exceptionally high levels of the antioxidant Lutein.

Foods that have antioxidant power exert beneficial influences over the human body in such cases as: inflammation, brain health, energy and many more, by fighting against the damaging effects of free radicals

Berries are Kids Favorite's

One of the main reason kids opt out of nutritious foods and go for the junk food, is because it taste good, and most of the time it looks better too.

Naturally, all of us have craved junk food at some point in time in our life, and it’s hard to make the switch, from processed foods to whole foods.

A healthy taste is a cultivated taste, but it’s a taste worth cultivating

There are healthy foods out there that are easy to love…Berries –especially for kids, because they are naturally sweet and can be put on cereal, oatmeal or you can just eat'em by the handful

Children often get the misconception that healthy foods are boring…Not true. With a little preparation foods that were once "boring" can be turn into a delectable looking and deliciously tasting dish!

A berry-smoothie is among the most popular. Go to any "smoothie place" and yes, they will have quite a collection of berry drinks!

One of the reasons for they’re popularity is because berries are natural sweeteners; many, such as blackberries, blueberries and strawberries offer a sweet taste with a low amount of natural sugars – win-win!

If you want a sweeter smoothie they just add a few strawberries or blueberries – and presto naturally sweetened!

And we probably don't have to tell this just one of the reasons kids love them!
