Cherry Nutrition Facts

Cherries are a fruit that is very low in calorie yet very rich in vitamins, minerals and other antioxidants. They are both, sweet and tart, and pack many many health benefits. We name a few below.

Pigment Rich Skin – pigment rich might sound a little strange, but it’s a good thing.

Most fruits and vegetables that have dark, rich colorful skins such as: red, purple or blue, contain flavonoid compounds also known as anthocyanin glycosides - which is a powerful antioxidant that is very beneficial to the body.

(This antioxidant is usually found in the skin of most all fruits and vegetables)

Sleep Aid – cherries contain a hormone called melatonin, which is known to help regulate the body’s sleep cycles, and aid in a deeper more restful sleep.

Vitamin C – cherries contain vitamin C, which plays an important role in repairing damaged tissue as well as aiding healthy tissue to continue to grow strong.

Vitamin C is an antioxidant which helps prevent the spread of free radicals in the body – which contribute to the development of heart disease, cancer, arthritis etc... Since the body cannot synthesize vitamin C, you must obtain it from food sources, and cherries are an excellent way to do that.

Cherry Smoothie Tips

  • Cherries should be firm, glossy, have a clean skin, and be nice and plump.
  • The stem should be firmly attached to the fruit – this is a sign of freshness.
  • Always pit your cherries before putting them in your smoothie.
  • Cherries deteriorate fast so consume your fresh cherries within a week.
