The Chia Smoothie Page

A chia smoothie? What a great idea! Chia seeds have a little bit of a nutty flavor with a very mild taste so adding a tablespoon here or there won’t negatively affect the flavor of your concoction.

You will want to be careful about not adding to many seeds to your blender because chia, when soaked in water, becomes gelatinous and will make a very very thick smoothie - which is fine if that’s how you like it!

How to use Chia in a Smoothie

You can make your "chia concoction" two ways.

First, you can soak a tablespoon of chia in water for 10-15 minutes, then add them to your blender and blend. By soaking the seeds they will become somewhat gelatinous what is a good thing because it allows for improved digestion due to the fact they were softened a little!

Secondly, you can take dry seeds and grind them in a coffee grinder – turning them into powder. Once in the powdered form add them to your smoothie. Be sure to add twice the amount of water vs. the chia because chia seeds drink up “literally” most of the water around them.


Chia Seed Smoothie Recipes

Orange Cream Chia Smoothie

1 ½ cup orange juice

½ mango

½ banana

2 tbsp yogurt

1 tbsp chia

Directions

Soak your seeds in the orange juice for 10 minutes. Once softened blend all ingredients in your blend and enjoy!


Basic Chia-Seed Smoothie

1 ½ cup apple juice

1 cup mixed berries (fresh or frozen – if you use frozen you won’t need to use ice)

1 tbsp chia

Directions

Optional* soak your seeds in apple juice for 10 minutes – than blend all ingredients in your blend until smooth and enjoy!



Tropical Chia Seed Smoothie

1 banana

½ orange peeled, and seeded

½ cup pineapple-cubed for the blender

½ cup coconut milk

½ mango

½ water

1 tbsp chia

Directions

Optional* soak your seeds in your coconut milk and water for 10 minutes, than blend all ingredients in your blender until smooth and enjoy!


Very Merry Berry Chia Smoothie

1 ½ cups milk (commonly used is almond milk)

2 tsp of the amazing seeds

½ cup frozen strawberries

½ frozen banana

½ cup frozen blueberries

Directions

Blend together in your high-powered blend until smooth and enjoy!


Classic Smoothie

2 tsp soaked chia

1 cup frozen fruits (commonly used are strawberries)

2 cups coconut milk

Directions

Optional* soak your seeds in the coconut milk, than blend all the ingredients in your blender until smooth and enjoy!
