Flax Seed Smoothie...Anyone up for it?

What a title, don’t be scared…yet! Just kidding, these flax seed smoothies are really tasty. It’s another addition to your smoothie that will give it an essential fatty acid boost = omega 3 power!

Since many of us struggle to get to proper ratio of omega 6 to3 smoothies are a great way to give you omega 3’s a leg up. Add them to your blender, blend them up and you will never know they’re in there.

3 Different Ways to Use Flax in your Smoothie

Flax Seed Oil - is a great option for kids. The oil will slide right into your blender and mix in with the rest of your ingredients – they will never know it’s in there.

Flax Seed Power – flax seed power is just grounded whole flax seeds. Using ground flaxseed as opposed to whole flaxseeds allows your body to receive all of the healthy components that they contain. If all you have is whole seeds, you can easily grind them up in a coffee grinder and presto – you have grounded flaxseed.

Whole Flax Seeds – you can put whole seeds into your smoothie although we do not recommend it. When eating whole flax seeds it is more likely for them to pass through the intestinal tract undigested, which mean your body doesn’t receive all of the benefits if could.


Flax Seed Smoothie Recipes

Flax Seed Smoothie

1 banana

1 cup juice – pineapple grape, apple

1 tbsp yogurt

1 tbsp flax seed oil

Ice as needed

Directions

Blend until smooth and enjoy!


Banana Raspberry Yogurt Smoothie

6oz yogurt

1 ½ almond milk

1 cup unsweetened frozen or fresh raspberries

1 banana

1 tbsp flax oil

Ice as needed

Blend until smooth and enjoy!



Raspberry Peach Smoothie

2 cups water

2 cups cashews, soaked 4-8 hr, discard soaking water

1 cup raspberries - fresh or frozen – if you use frozen you will not have to use ice

1 cup peaches - fresh or frozen – if you use frozen you will not have to use ice

1 ½ tablespoons honey

½ vanilla extract

Ice as needed

Directions

First, place cashews and water in you blender and blend until creamy, about 1 minute. Then add raspberries, peaches, honey, flax oil, and vanilla until smooth, and add ice as needed.


Very Berry Flax-Seed Smoothie

½ cup blueberries

½ cup strawberries

½ cup blackberries

1 medium carrot

1 cup milk - you can also use almond milk

1 cup pomegranate juice

Ice as needed

Directions

Blend in your blender until smooth and enjoy!


Breakfast Flax Smoothie

1 cup milk- you can also use almond milk

1 banana

2 tbsp honey

¾ cup granola

1 tbsp flax oil

½ cup ice

Directions

Blend until smooth and enjoy!
