What do Hemp Seeds have to Offer?

Hemp seeds are a wonderful smoothie additive; they for sure will make your smoothie making skills to a new level.

With this little seed being one of the highest sources of plant-protein available it contains all of the essential amino acids necessary in building muscle through working-out.

It also contains high amounts of omega 3 and omega 6 as well as other essential fatty acids. This seed is truly a superfood!

Hemp is a Great Vegetable Source of Protein

Hemp Seeds

Hemp protein is amazing, no other vegetable can hold a candle to it; it is the most complete source of protein you can get from one place.

Just one handful of these seeds will graciously provide the daily minimum protein requirement for adults. Hemp is a very effective way of adding more protein to your diet without adding more meat (e.i. cholesterol)

Hemp Seeds Essential Fatty Acid (EFAs) Content

Hemp is one of the best plant-based sources of essential fatty acids - having a perfect: 3 to 1 ratio of omega 3 vs. omega 6.

In the “health world” when something is considered “essential” i.e essential fatty acids – it means that the body cannot produce it; its source comes from food. The human body cannot produce omega 3 and omega 6 so therefore we must obtain it through the food that we eat.

Omega 3s are one of the more important ones, its benefits include:

  • Helping to reduce inflammation
  • Improved brain function
  • Stronger immune system

Seafood is by far one of the best ways to consume omega 3s, but here some other fantastic source as well:

  • Chia seeds
  • Flaxseed oil
  • Hemp seeds
  • Walnuts

Omega 6 is other type of fat. Do be careful, too much omega 6 can increase inflammation while omega 3 reduces it. The important part is to be sure to balance the two. Omega 6 sources come from:

  • Corn oil
  • Soybean oil
  • Sunflower oil
  • Canola oil

Remember that it is easier to consume omega 6 than omega 3 because omega 6 is in almost all of the oil people cook with today. The typical American Diet usually consumes twice sometimes three times as much omega 6 than omega 3.

You can work to balance this back out by making you are eating plenty of omega 3 rich foods.

Hemp Products

This superfood comes in many different forms; you can buy it in seed form, hemp protein powder, hemp oil, you choose.

Hemp Seeds are small is size and smooth in texture. They are very good on salads, sprinkle them on your yogurt for some added protein, and even on your dips and granola!

Hemp Protein is one of the most wholesome proteins out there. Just a small handful of these seeds will have you bouncing off the walls. (just joking)

Hemp Oil can use as well. Do not heat this oil to high temperatures, because its polyunsaturated fatty acids when heated to high temperatures convert to unhealthy peroxides. So it is best to use this oil for cold or warm dishes only.

Hemp-Seed Smoothies?

Oh absolutely, this is a great combination! If you want to give your smoothie more fiber and bucket full of omega 3s, just add a ½ tbsp of hemp.

And no worries, they won't affect the taste of your smoothie at all!
