Ever tried one of those Lemon Smoothie Recipes? You probably think of lemons as tart and not so great in a smoothie, but guess what, adding a little lemon to just about any smoothie will give it a nice kick and you'll love it!

Let’s examine the lemon and find out what it has to offer!

Health Benefits of Lemons

The health benefits of lemons are known for their therapeutic properties such as strengthening the immune system and cleansing the stomach.

Not only are they a wonderful blood purifier, but they also enable the body to fight infection and illnesses.

Below are some areas lemons can influence the body in a positive way:

Good for Stomach – lemon is known as a very soothing digestion agent. When mixed with warm hot it can help reduce pain, heartburn, sometimes nausea and bloating. By drinking lemon juice (mixed with water of course) in moderation, the bowels are aided in the process of eliminating waste more effectively.

Skin Care – lemon is a great natural antiseptic medicine and can help skin problems. Lemons are rich in vitamin C; because, it is a citrus fruit. If you mix lemon juice and water together you can gently rub it on your skin, wash it off, and be left feeling absolutely refreshed.

* when making this face wash be sure to use lots of water and just enough lemon to flavor the water (lemon is very strong) you don't want to over do it.

Good for Sore Throats – because of the vitamin C content in a lemon, it is extremely soothing to sore throats. For sore throats, mix lemon and warm water with a little bit of honey – did you know honey is also a bacteria killing agent?

Digestion – lemon aids the digestive tract by relieving boating and attacking parasites, it is helpful to the liver by helping it to producing more bile, which can in turn speed up the digestion processes.

Other ways to use Lemon

When life hands you lemons…what do you do? You make…soaps, yummy dishes, cleaning supplies and of course "lemonade". There are so many things you can do with a lemon, check out some of our ideas below!

Clean Microwaves – If you're looking for a more natural way to scrub up your microwave, try combining 3 tablespoons of lemon juice and 1 & ½ cups of water – you can either heat it up in the microwave to let the steam clean the walls (just make sure you use a microwave proof bowl) or you can warm up the mixture and take a cloth and use it as a scrub!

Keep Rice from Sticking - while the water is boiling, add a teaspoon of lemon juice, and it will keep the rice from turning into a gloppy mess/mass.

Keep your Guacamole from turning Brown - you are having a party and your beautiful green guacamole is slowly turning brown, and you have a million questions…what do I do…how can I keep it green…what will everyone think of my “brown” guacamole?

Never fear the lemons are near! To keep your guacamole green pour a liberal amount of fresh juice into the bowl and mix, then sprinkle a little on the top to keep the edges from turning – and that should do the trick!

Boost Laundry Detergent - do you want to remove rust and mineral discolorations from cotton T-shirts? During the wash cycle add 1 cup of lemon juice. *most of the time this will work it all depends on how bad the stain is...

Highlights - if you want lighter hair without having to go to the hair dresser, try lemon juice. Take a 1/8 of a cup and spread it on your hair in the desired places, then bask in the sun until your hair is dry, wash your hair and repeat this process until the desired hair color is reached.
