Studies have shown that diets rich in omega 3 are linked to promoting positive mood as well as a more focus state of mind. In fact, most of the tissue in the brain is comprised of omega 3 and 6 fats.

Omega 3 Benefits for Immune System Health

Cells that lack an adequate amount of omega 3 fats have a tendency to swell up or inflame. Essential fatty acids are crucial for the proper cellular-function of the body. They are called EFAs (essential fatty acids) because the body cannot produce them, we get them from the foods we eat – therefore it is possible for us to be deficient in them, and we must make sure our diets consist of an adequate amount of these EFAs.

Inflammation is a big factor in many degenerative diseases such as: Alzheimer’s, Arthritis etc… Consuming more omega 3 fats helps to counteract swelling.

Good Dietary Sources of Omega 3

Seafood is by far the best source of omega 3 fatty acids. Cold water fish such as salmon, flounder and shrimp are great sources, but when selecting fish be sure to purchase “wild caught” fish; because, they are not pumped full of growth hormones – they may still contain toxins, but nowhere near as many as farm grown.

Other than seafood there are some excellent vegetarian sources of omega 3. These are foods rich in the omega 3 fat, alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). And they include:
