The Peach Smoothie Page

A Peach Smoothie is a wonderful refreshing, healthy drink. This type of smoothie is a fantastic option if you are trying to cut back on your dairy intake.

Peaches blend up well with other milk(s) such as almond milk or soy milk, it's a fruit that can stand on it's own even without cow’s milk.

You can still maintain a nice creamy, smooth texture to your drink even without cow's milk .

Health Benefits of Peaches

Peaches are delicious – especially fresh, but they also pack a whole lot of nutrition for their punch - which makes making a peach smoothie all the more inviting! Here are just some of the Health Benefits of Peaches:

Low Calorie – peaches are wonderfully low in calorie and contain no saturated fats, but at the same time are packed with loads of health promoting vitamins and minerals

Vitamin C – fresh peaches are an excellent source of the antioxidant vitamin C. The consumption of foods rich in vitamin C helps the body fight against infection and helps it to build up a resistance against harmful free radicals

Minerals – peaches are rich in potassium and iron. Potassium is important to the cell of the body and help to regulate the heart rate and blood pressure. Iron is crucial for the function of red blood cells

Vitamin A – in order to maintain healthy mucus membranes and skin, vitamin A plays an important role

Selection and Storage of Peaches

In most grocery stores peaches are available year around, but the fresh season is from May till October. When selecting peaches look for the ones rich in color. Avoid ones that have excessive softness which could end up being from bruising or from over handling.

Your ripe fruits should be soft but not gooey, they should also have a sweet aroma to them, if they stink - stay away from them!

You can place your ripe peaches in the refrigerator to prevent them from over ripening too fast. If you have peaches you want to ripen faster you can enhance this process by placing them in a paper bag. Ethylene is what helps them to ripen faster – storing them in a paper bag concentrates this gas and speeds the ripening process up.
