The Many Spinach Health Benefits will give your Smoothie an Extra Lift!

Spinach health benefits are very numerous, this leafy green has many vitamin and minerals to offer, not to mention they blend extremely well into a smoothie.

The Green Smoothie Secret

Spinach is the long standing green smoothie secret.

This green is mild in flavor and for that reason, can be easily dominate by a strongly flavored fruit such as a pineapple, mixing these two together will definitely give you a green colored smoothie, but it definitely won’t make it taste like one.

Spinach based smoothies seem to be the secret weapon of most people’s diet, for good reasons (listed below)

  • · Spinach is cholesterol free, fat free and low in calories
  • · Spinach contains high levels of the antioxidant: Lutein – which promotes good eye health among other things.
  • · Spinach is rich in chlorophyll, which is responsible for the green pigment in green plants. Getting an adequate amount of chlorophyll is necessary to help your body neutralize the toxins found in the blood.
  • · Spinach is an excellent source of the vitamins: C, A, K as well as containing a good amount of dietary fiber.

The spinach health benefits make a green smoothie sound pretty good!

Need Help with the Flavor?

If you are just starting out with green smoothies and you’re a little worried about the color and the taste…maybe? Well, no worries, we’ve got you covered!

Below are a few pointers on some additives and as well as some suggestions on what fruits to add to your green smoothie to help out with the taste factor:

Banana – this is a good quick fix. A banana is sweet, but not too sweet, but most importantly it’s creamy. The sweetness along with the creaminess will add to the taste as well as the texture.

Pineapple – this is a great fruit to add to a green smoothie, it has a dominate flavor that blenders nicely with other greens as well. Mangoes are also a good option, they have the creaminess of a banana just a little more tangy and sweet.

Honey – if your smoothie is on the bitter side, add a tablespoon or two of honey. Using of honey versus instead of other sweeteners such as: sweet n low or spenda keeps your smoothie on the natural side – therefore a smoothie can be sweet and healthy.

Protein Powder – adding a chocolate of vanilla flavored protein powder will add flavor as well as protein.

Spinach Smoothie - Superfood Additives

Goji Berries are a great way to turn your already healthy smoothie into an antioxidant packed smoothie.

Flax Seed Oil is a good source of healthy omega 3 fatty acids. Just a tablespoon of flax seed oil or flax powder to your smoothie will give the omega 3’s a leg-up.

Chia Seeds are an excellent source of dietary fiber. You will probably want to soak them a bit, before adding them to your smoothie, to soften them up. Chia contains: fiber, protein as well as essential fatty acids.

Hemp Seeds or powder are also an excellent source of protein. It’s said that hemp contains almost all of the essential vitamins and minerals the body contain in just one little seed.

Remember to Rotate

It’s no surprise that eating fruits and vegetables are good for you, but for optimal health be sure you remember to rotate.

This is important because you don’t want your body to become too accustom to one green versus another. You want your body to get the most nutritional value it can out of your produce as possible. It can look something like this: spinach one week, kale another, swiss chard for one…etc…

Remember to rotate for optimal health.
