Squash Smoothies? Absolutely!

It might sound strange, but yes, squash smoothies are possible and yummy!

These delicious smoothie recipes are to die for. You can easily add a slice of squash to your fruit-smoothie, blend it up and you will not even know there’s a vegetable in there – it’s that easy!

Health Benefits of Squash-Smoothies

Squash is definitely not the "norm" when it comes to smoothies, but no worries, leave it to us to think of something like this!

The good thing is...it is all healthy and good for the body. Squash offers a wide variety of health benefits that can be easily discovered through a smoothie!

Enjoy the list below:

Low in Calories – just 1 cup of yellow squash contains about 36 calories, less than one gram of fat and only 7 grams of carbohydrates. If you are trying to lose weight squash is a great option versus some of the other higher calorie vegetables such as: potatoes and corn.

Heart Healthy – the levels of fat and cholesterol in squash are almost non-existent; therefore, this vegetable does not negatively affect the heart in fact it is actually good for it.

Magnesium is a mineral found in yellow squash which allows the body to relax. It has also been noted that magnesium is good for reducing high blood pressure as well as supporting energy levels.

Digestive Health – squash contains 2.52 grams of fiber per serving, and as you know, fiber is crucially important for the proper elimination of toxins. Not only does squash contain fiber, but it also leaves the colon feeling refreshed with the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients it contains.

Eye Health – squash also contains a good amount of lutein, which is part of the carotenoids family.

Good dietary sources of lutein are very supportive to the eye system. In fact, lutein and zeaxanthin are the only two carotenoids found in the retina and the lens of the eye. So eating founds high in these antioxidants are very beneficial to one's health.

Superfoods Additives to Give it that Extra Kick!

Goji Berries are a great way to pack antioxidants into your squash smoothies...they'll give you an extra kick of energy!

Flax Seed Oil is high in omega 3 fatty acids. Just add a tablespoon of flax seed oil and you’ll have had your healthy fats for the day.

Chia Seeds are a great source of fiber. You will most likely want to soak them for a little while to soften them before adding them to your smoothie.

Maca Powder is an excellent food to add to your smoothie. It is extremely nutrient-dense packed with vitamins, essential minerals, healthy fats and amino acids. This powder is a real "energy kicker" so much so that you won’t be reaching for your coffee in the mornings!

Chilling your Smoothie

There’s nothing like a cold, creamy, just right, smoothie…right? So here are two of our most favorite ways to chill our smoothies. Check them out!

• Frozen Fruit – if you don’t want to use ice, just freeze your fruit before blending it up. It will give your smoothie the same cold creamy consistency just with less water.

• Ice – or you can add plain ice. If you need a quick "chiller fix" this is the best way to do it.
