Tomato Recipes “Smoothie Style”

Let’s turn tomato recipes into tomato smoothie recipes! Now, you might not think that tomatoes would mix well with smoothies, but like we always say, if you spin it right…it can be downright delicious!

Health Benefits of Tomato

We love to throw a tomato into our blender every-now ‘n’ then; because, they have a lot to offer when it comes to the health department. Check it out below:

Vitamin A – tomatoes are a good source for vitamin A, also known as beta-carotene. This vitamin helps promote good eye health as well as helping to fight infection and promote white blood cell health.

Potassium – tomatoes contain a fair amount of potassium. Potassium acts as an electrolyte in the body, balancing fluids. This mineral allows the body to contract and relax muscle functions as well as helping to promote good heart health.

Vitamin C – tomatoes are an excellent source of vitamin C. Just one medium sized tomato can contain anywhere from 20% to 25% of the daily recommended value of iron. Iron is an essential part of good health. It helps to transport oxygen to various parts of the body thus promoting good cell growth and cell function as well as promote the production of red blood cells.

Lycopene – tomatoes contain lycopene, which is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect the body against free radicals. Tomatoes of all varieties contain lycopene, but the red varieties are especially concentrated with this antioxidant.

Tomato Recipes "Gone Smoothie" Tips

Consistency: when using tomatoes, always be sure to add a “creamy” fruit, one that has a more dominate flavor such as: mangoes, bananas, avocadoes etc…

Temperature: ice is always good! When in doubt use ice!

Liquid Base: tomatoes naturally are watery, so normally, you can cut your liquid base anywhere from 25% to 50% - the water from the tomato will take care of the rest. Also, when making a tomato smoothie, it’s best to use a liquid base that has "lots" of flavor to it such as: almond milk, coconut milk etc…

Additives: just like with any other smoothie you can add protein powders, kefir, superfoods. You name it the sky’s the limit!
