A yogurt smoothie is a great way to enjoy a creamy nutritionally-rich drink, and if you add berries to it, it will turn your "already" nutritionally rich smoothie into an antioxidant packed smoothie – YEAH!
This is what you want: yogurt with live cultures. Yogurt with live cultures is a fermented food with good bacteria that's very helpful to the gut.
Now, the word “bacteria” often raises eyebrows, and people tend to think of mold or illness – which is true: bad bacteria is bad! But some forms of bacteria offer important health benefits to the body, (and actually live in the body) we call these: good bacteria also known as: probiotics.
Certain foods naturally contain “good bacteria” such as yogurt, kefir etc... Adding these foods in moderation to your diet can to beneficial to your overall health.
At your local grocery store look for two ingredients on the yogurt container: live cultures and milk.
Avoid the brands that contain preservatives, artificial colorings & flavorings. These extra ingredients only tax the body by making it work harder to eliminate toxins that didn’t have to be there in the first place.
Also, avoid brands that state that the yogurt has been
heat-treated after the cultures were added. Heating the yogurt after the
live cultures have been added strips them of most of their nutritional value,
thus defeating the purpose of eating “live cultures” - high heat levels kill them.
So, remember the two ingredients: live cultures and milk. Also, remember no preservatives and no artificial anything and you should be good! Have fun shopping!
